Hi All,

We're considering adding a directory of Betterhumans-related companies to the site. The directory would include companies working in nanotechnology, biotechnology, wearable computers and other emerging science and technology fields. Before we move forward with this project, we want to know whether people think it would be a valuable addition to the site. So, what do you think?

I think it will be valuable and it is a good idea and represents another sign of Betterhumans' growing maturity sophistication and importance.

    *However* -- be very careful.

It is the ongoing soft spot of contemporary futurists to mistake rosy corporate press releases for scientific statements. BH needs to avoid getting tarred with the brush of being corporate shills a la Tech Central Station.

Maybe there should be an extensive directory of NGOs and activist organizations too who have an impact on technological development but who cannot be confused with a one-sided corporate globalization agenda?

I think the great thing about BH is that it refuses to fall into the trap *either* of uncritical technophobia (like the Kassoid bio-conservatives or luddite brands of environmentalism) or uncritical technophilia (all hail the predator gods of capitalist triumphalism a la 90s irrational exuberant extropianism).

BH is techno-critical -- a culture of criticism that takes technology seriously but doesn't assume in advance that all technological development is either good or bad -- just deeply significant, impossible to escape, and vitally important to talk about and deal with.
